The Rick Macci Tennis Academy is home to the most advanced stroke technique improvement program in the world. Known as the B.E.S.T. system, the program is based on the discovery of the “perfect swing” from two decades of scientific research into tennis stroke biomechanics. Brian Gordon, a USPTA teaching pro, Ph.D. in sport biomechanics, and creator of 3-D Tennis Technologies developed and runs the program.
The program is CRITICAL to players of all ages and abilities because it guides development toward the “perfect swing” through a series of predefined and tested steps. The steps progressively eliminate wasteful and time-consuming motion. This motion is replaced with a simpler and more compact stroke designed to cause the muscles to perform in more optimal conditions. In short, this increases racquet speed with less motion. This, of course, is the approach used by the world’s best players.
Our UNIQUE understanding of the approach ensures participants will reach their genetic potential in the shortest amount of time. However, nothing is left to chance. Progression toward the “perfect swing” requires constantly assessing complex stroke attributes such as range of motion, muscle performance and racquet speed. ONLY scientific grade 3D measurement systems are capable of this level of assessment. And ONLY at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy can this level of diagnostic equipment be found.
So, if your goal is to develop stroke technique built for the future and for ANY level, the tennis player development equivalent of the “Olympic Training Centers” is at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy. Rick Macci is the world’s best teacher of the B.E.S.T. system techniques. His coaches reinforce the concepts in academy activities. But true success REQUIRES periodic 3D measurement with our quarter-million dollar technology, and measurement based specialized training with Dr. Brian Gordon.

B.E.S.T. Specialized Training with Brian Gordon, Ph.D., USPTA
Learning the “perfect swing” is one thing, being able to use it under pressure in competition is another. The process of learning the B.E.S.T. system techniques requires conscious changes to motion patterns guided by Rick Macci and his staff. The techniques are usable under pressure only when they are transformed to “second nature” – built into muscle memory and reproducible without thought under any conditions.
This transformation can be obtained in only one way – through extensive repetition training in the absence of competitive (“point”) pressure. This is the focus of B.E.S.T. Specialized Training. Training sessions are conducted on an individual basis (hourly) and carefully planned to: (1) provide extreme repetition in performing the B.E.S.T. system stroke techniques, (2) perfect adaptations required for the variable conditions of competition, and (3) adapt the neuromuscular system for optimal stroke production.
Repetition Training – Intense repetition is the only way to move a new motor skill from being consciously controlled to an automatic motor pattern. Training sessions feature extensive repetition of the core stroke patterns using ball machines and “dead ball” feeding. Constant feedback is provided based on the results of the most recent 3D measurement combined with visual learning from video of top playing professionals.
Adaptation Training – B.E.S.T. system stroke technique is based largely on its adaptability to variable conditions encountered in competition. Training session emphasis is therefore placed on the adaptations as they relate to incoming ball attributes (height, speed, spin, and location) and outgoing ball attributes (placement, speed, spin, and trajectory). Because positioning is critical to adaptation training, emphasis is also placed on movement (footwork patterns, center of mass positioning, and acceleration) toward incoming shots and in recovery.
Neuromuscular Training – The B.E.S.T. system generally replaces range of motion with muscle performance optimization. Full benefit of this transformation requires specific training of the bodies’ neuromuscular system. Training sessions utilize innovative techniques designed to improve the performance of this system through specially developed exercises. The exercises specifically target the force that muscles can produce at HIGH SPEED while using the exact motion patterns of the B.E.S.T. system stroke techniques.
